CONCLUSIONS

In Zaragoza, 24 to November 27, 2009.

More than two hundred participants in the Third National Conference on Invasive Alien Species (EEI 2009) researchers representatives of scientific and conservation organizations, professionals, technicians and managers of area management environment, have been developed by consensus the following conclusions.

instruments are welcomed in the Law 42/2007 of December 13, Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, to prevent and mitigate the impact of invasive alien species, and support the creation of the English Catalogue of Species invasive, as the first strategic tool.

urge the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM) to urgently develop regulations related to the catalog and support strategies, monitoring and update.

create a platform for multidisciplinary, open and participatory offered as direct contact with the MARM to develop the English Catalogue of Invasive Alien Species.

express their concern about the impact of invasive alien species in aquatic ecosystems and the fragmentation of responsibility makes it difficult to carry out effective management actions. Authorities urge the central, regional and local coordinate more effectively, especially in the case of watersheds to prevent translocations. This coordination should also be made extended to the development of the English Catalogue of Invasive Alien Species.

consider that island ecosystems deserve special attention due to their fragility and the impact posed by invasive alien species on endemic richness.

reiterate their concern and again to warn of the low social awareness of the problem of invasive alien species and the consequences and responsibilities arising therefrom. Expressed particular concern at the increasing number of introduced species through trade, especially pets and ornamental plants, the regulation must be revised.

recognize the importance of promoting synergies between the media and the world of research / management to inform the problem of invasive alien species and urge the MARM, autonomous communities and local authorities to engage in advocacy aimed at the general population and different sectors.
