The Opuntia Maldonadensis is the only species of cilindropuntia in our territory. It is native to the mountains that culminate in the Atlantic Ocean, in the department of Maldonado. It was discovered by J. Arechavaleta who described it as "cylindrical, thorny, intricate, erect, cylindrical lower trunk ... rounded top, near its apex articulated branches are born ..." Maybe it said, is a small-sized plant with the characteristic cylindrical segments, less squat and less branched than O. Aurantiaca.
