Notocactus Scopa




This beautiful representative of the genus Notocactus, living and abounding in hills and cliffs of the eastern part of Uruguay (deptos. of Maldonado and Rocha Lavalleja). Is globose or elongated cylindrical of 10 to 30 cm high by 6 to 10 inches in diameter, entirely covered with lint and stingers that generate a greyish appearance. 20 to 30 pallets, some outstanding, rounded, dark green. Areola narrow and next, aguiijones numerous, 30-45, radiate, Blac-greyish, semi, 2-3 inner, higher, straight, pewter and red, and sometimes central one, longer than the other and entirely dark red. Flores sat in the proximity of the apex, 3-6, but sometimes, on being opened, quite often, 2 to 3 together, yellow, sulfur. Ovary seated perigonal tube short, somewhat flared, 3 cm in length overall. Lower bracteoles minute, reduced to hairs or bristles. Stamens around the style and sitting on the wall perigonal internal measure reaching a maximum of 2 cm., Filaments yellow, pale. About 2 ctms style. high, armin red and purple stigmas.
